Here is the picture of my 52" Northern Pike. Caught 7/17/2005.
I caught the fish in a one of the rivers to the west. After a big cold rain storm came in, our guide thought that it may be too cold to go North. The next day, many of the other boats went North. We instead went to the west and found a small bay off the river and went in there late afternoon. We caught several nice fish in there.
I was casting with the standard issue Johnson silver minnow with white worm. Around 4:00, I was realing in and my pole bent almost under the boat. I thought I had snagged, but experience told me to keep the rod up and set. Our guide Ronnie was at the back and saw the fish. I managed to work the line around to the side making and got the net under the fish. I knew it was large, but had no idea how large until we got the fish out of the net.
The most amazing thing about our week at Nueltin was that my partner, Bob Landa, and I fished the cycle. Between the two of us we caught a 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 and 52 Northern. The best fish outside of our boat in our group was a 45". - Rick D.
